James Dueker, age 65, of Grandin, ND, died Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Fargo.

James Nicholas Dueker, known as Jim, was born July 11, 1952, in West Union Twp, Todd Co, near Alexandria, MN, the son of Nicholas and Marie (Sauer) Dueker. He grew up on the family farm near West Union and attended District #114 country school. Jim graduated from Osakis High School in 1970.

Jim served in the US Army Nov 1970 until Oct 1973, and was stationed in Vietnam for some of that service time. He was awarded a Vietnam service medal with one bronze service star, in addition to other medals and bars. Following his Honorable discharge, Jim returned to the area and worked as a truck driver and equipment operator.

He loved to hunt and fish, and also grew a very large garden each year. People would come from far and wide to enjoy the abundance of his harvest. Jim was known to some as “The Corn Guy”. He was a lifetime member of Osmon-Lane VFW Post #4172, Hillsboro, ND.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Danielle (Perry) Sawrey, Englewood, CO, and Monica (Ryan) Berggren, West Fargo, ND; three sisters, Jean (Richard) Otte, Jane (Lennie) Murray, Dorene (Mike) Merten; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Dueker. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Mya, whom he considered to be his best friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dennis, and a sister & brother-in-law, Marion & Nick Thieschafer.
